Spring might not be quite here yet but there’s no reason that you can’t bring some spring vibes into your kitchen and we’ve got some tips to help. Your kitchen is likely to be one of the places you congregate as a family and a space in which to socialise – so let’s shake off the winter blues and head into a new season.
It goes without saying that the right worktops will elevate your home and the material you choose has a big impact on creating the right atmosphere. We know surfaces, and whether you’re looking for a waterfall island in Dekton or an elegant backlit quartzite splashback, we can help you. In addition, there’s lots of little things you can do to introduce some cheer.
Bring the outdoors in
Fresh flowers don’t only look beautiful – they often smell good, too and if you have some daffodils or tulips growing in your garden, just a few stems arranged in a glass vase can create a focal point on a worktop. If you don’t have anything growing yet and the garden is looking a little barren, choose seasonal British blooms to inject a little colour. For extra interest, cluster a few of your favourite vases together and place somewhere prominent. Is there such a thing as too many flowers? We don’t think so.
Don’t forget the houseplants either, as these can soften hard edges, filter the air and create a more organic look. Choose something low-maintenance and don’t be afraid to combine different plants as layering up with different textures can look really effective. Great combinations are ferns with feathery fronds and Monsteras (cheese plant) with their bold, glossy leaves. Edible herbs including basil and mint can be useful additions to the kitchen as they are easy to reach when it’s time for a bolognese or mojito…
Clearing the clutter
If you’ve got stacks of unopened post on your kitchen counter, spring is the perfect time to clear the decks – literally and giving your surfaces a little TLC is simple, providing you follow the cleaning instructions. Never be tempted to use strong chemicals that may compromise the material as often, less is more. We understand the properties of each material we work with so can offer expert advice on how best to clean them; however, if you’re seeking a deep clean, contact a specialist stone company who can restore your surfaces making them look as fresh as the day they were installed.
If you’re prone to leaving items on the worktop, invest in some storage solutions that can keep things neat, tidy and out of sight. Woven type baskets add a rustic touch for a shaker-style kitchen, whereas stackable boxes that coordinate with your colour scheme keep the look modern.
Add a splash of colour
You can accessorise your kitchen as you would accessorise your outfit and spring is the perfect time. Most of us might add a few festive touches at Christmas but why not make a ritual of changing up the decorations for each season? You could also consider buying some new napkins or a couple of pastel-hued mugs to bring in some spring-like tones. Even the humble tea towel can make a style statement if you choose one with a design worth showing off!
